Pursuant to Decree-Law No. 50 and the Royal Decree of 1931, the Agricultural Credit Bank of Egypt was established with a capital of one million Egyptian pounds during the global economic crisis, making it the first purely Egyptian bank specializing in supporting and financing agricultural activity. Since that date, the bank has harnessed all its capabilities to serve and support the Egyptian economy, playing its developmental role in financing major development projects, becoming one of the most important and widely spread banking institutions across Egypt. The Agricultural Bank of Egypt currently has more than 1,200 branches across the country, in addition to more than 4 million square meters of storage capacity, 2 million square meters of which are allocated to receiving local wheat from farmers. The bank also owns 392 barns spread across the country. With the issuance of Law No. 84 of 2016, the Main Bank for Development and Agricultural Credit became a public sector bank, and its name was changed to the "Agricultural Bank of Egypt." It takes the form of an Egyptian joint-stock company, with its capital fully owned by the state and an independent legal personality. The Agricultural Bank of Egypt is subject to the provisions of the Central Bank and Banking Law promulgated by the new Banking Law No. 194 of 2020. According to Law No. 84 of 2016, the Agricultural Bank of Egypt aims to provide the necessary financing for various types of agricultural and rural development activities.
